100WC

100 Word Challenge.

“James , clear the window!!” George's throat was raw from yelling orders at his battalion all night. Misty sea fog was rolling into the small hot room giving everyone a sigh of relief and relieving it of its dreadful stench. Touching the cold metal of the cannon gave George a sick pleasure as well as the feel of the coarse rope attached to the barrel as he yanked down hard on it. “Fire” yelled James, excited as George was. The  thick black ball rolled through the morning light. Almost in slow motion for George, as it made impact with its target.

Persuasive writing

 Tuesday 18th August 2020

Dear Mum and Dad.

Online shopping, a safe place for my money, and way easier to get paid and pay people. All these statements sound great, don’t they. Well what if I told you that these can all be possibilities if you finally get me my own debit card. I am absolutely positive that you will as well after reading all my points and reasonings.

My first reason is that I could do online shopping without a hassle. I know that you especially  Mum, hate the hassle of getting out the card writing down all the numbers and then putting away again. That is just simply a waste of your time and mine. As well as me handing you an absurd amount of coins to pay you back. That is just downright annoying. Also I would be paying the full amount of my purchase, instead of my usual pay and leaving the shipping for you. It would be fully from my own bank account, and this would greatly benefit you in the long run, wouldn’t it just. Responsibility is also a big factor in this having a debit card would teach me to be more wise with my money when online shopping.

Furthermore, I would also finally have a safe place for my money. As you know and I know I have recently lost quite a bit of money due to the misplacing of my wallet where I accidentally left it out on my desk for all to see and take by accident. This was quite traumatic for me since for a child my age this is quite a bit of money that doesn’t come easily. Although the matter at hand is if I had a debit card all my money would be safe in my bank account that’s just for us to access. Also if I do misplace my card we could quickly cancel it with just a phone call and purchase a new one.  Although I am certain this won't happen l. Wouldn’t that be great, never having to worry about the whereabouts of my money. Did you also know that a bank manager stated that it is best to get your child a debit card when they are around 11 so they can get more confident and independent around banks and money? I think that sounds very wise and should be something to take into consideration.

My final factor is all about when I start doing jobs/working which isn’t that far into the near future. I imagine in this period of time I'll start doing small jobs like babysitting, paper runs,  and simply doing  jobs for dad at the vets. The thing is with these jobs I will need some how to get paid that  simply isn't just cash. That is just inconvenient. I will need some sort of card details for my bank account or something to put across on in online banking. This will make it easier to be on top of my payments and make sure everything is in order. As a matter of fact this will also make my purchases easy and quicker. Instead of the whole cash and change business that is germy and annoying.

So with all these reasons I am absolutely certain you will be able to see the massive bonuses to getting me my own debit card. Because I will be able to online shop without a hassle, I will have a safe place for my money and it will make it much easier for me to get paid when I start doing small jobs. I believe that this sounds like a great idea and I am confident that you now do too

Kind Regards,

Molly

Immune System

Who does your immune system work?

Your immune system is a crucial part of your body and without it you would be dead, or sick for your whole life. It is what fights bacteria and sickness in your body; it also recognizes bacteria so it will know what to do. Your immune system is built up with 22 different cells all with different jobs but today I will just be focusing on a main six. Now this is how your immune system works.

Firstly bacteria is always around you and your skin waiting for an opening. Say when you cut yourself, bacteria finds the opening and immediately floods in, penetrating the skin and starts to multiply. They first go unnoticed but once they reach a certain amount your immune system starts to notice.

Secondly as bacteria starts to seep into your body, starting to multiply, and overtaking it Macrophages(guard cells) will be the first at the site. Thousands of them will start to eat bacteria, trap it inside their membrane, and suffocate it with enzymes until it is dead. They are your biggest cells being 21 micrometers long and wide. Macrophages also cause inflammation(slight swelling) by sending protein messengers to the blood vessels to let water into the site of bacteria. This makes it easier to kill them. Also when they get tired they send out more messenger proteins to communicate their location and urgency for backup.

Then, Neutrophils hear the Macrophages message, and quickly leave the blood to go help. A Neutrophil's sole purpose is to kill, in fact they fight so furiously they kill healthy cells in the process. They also create sticky barriers that trap and kill bacteria easily. They are so deadly they commit suicide after five days as to not cause the body to much damage.

Next, when the battle gets too much the brain of the immune system kicks in these are called Dendritic cells. They start to collect samples from bacteria and place pieces of them on their outer layer. They then decide to call in an army of bacteria cells to eradicate the virus, to do this they must travel to the closest Lymph Node(which takes around a day) to activate an army of Killer T cells.

Once the Dendritic cells make their ways to the Lymph Node, T cells are waiting and ready to be activated. When T cells are born they go through difficult and complex training to make sure there is only the best of them left. It is so difficult only a quarter of them survive. When they have completed training they are rewarded with a specific set up skills. Dendritic cells start to look for a Helper T cell whose setup is just right. They are looking for one that they can combine their samples with. T cells are called Virgin Helper T cells when they have no job or samples, and they are called Helper T cells when they do have a job/samples. When the Dendritic finds a T cell with the set up they are looking for a chain reaction begins. The Helper T cell is activated and it quickly duplicates thousands of times. Some become Memory T cells that stay in the Lymph node and will make you practically immune from the certain bacteria. Most will go to the battlefield to fight the bacteria, and the remaining will travel to the centre of the Lymph Node to activate the B cells.

B cells also known as B Lymphocytes are a form of white blood. Virgin B cells are born with a specific setup as well, and are one of the hardest working cells. When a B cell and T cell with the same setup meet, the B cell immediately produces millions of Antibodies. They work so hard literally from exhaustion, thankfully helper T cells stimulate them to keep going even though this does last forever. This also ensures that they will eventually die so the body does not waste energy and hurt itself.

Antibodies are little proteins that are engineered to bind to the surface of a specific intruder. There are different kinds of Antibodies that do different jobs. The helper T cells tell the B cells what type is needed. Then all of them saturate the blood and the body. Then when everything is getting dire at the spot of bacteria, billions of Antibodies flood the bacteria and quickly disable them, rendering them helpless. They also kill and stun them making them an easier target. Antibodies backs are built to connect to Killer Cells so they can join and kill the enemy even quicker.

Then with a team the bacteria is wiped out. At this point millions of body cells have already died, although this is no big deal, as the losses are replenished. Most of your immune cells are now useless and without constant signal they commit suicide, so as to not waste resouraces. Some stay behind, Memory Helper T cells and Memory B cells. So if the bacteria ever comes back in your body, they can wipe it out without you even noticing. And that is how your immune system works.

100WC

The smell had become unbearable. It was like a million small knives were stabbing into my nose, making me dizzy and delusional. Since my mum had no sense of smell she kept dismissing me denying the stench. One night I couldn't take it anymore so I flung myself out of my bed in search of its source. I crept around the dim house, careful not to wake mum. I checked the laundry and then I saw it. A small dirty baby sat abandoned in a car seat. Her limbs and features were icicles. The baby had been dead for days.

100WC

One frosty morning in  August ,my pet polar bear and I decided to go on a nice  drive to check out all the snow. We quickly set off, the road was icy and dangerous, we were slipping and sliding from one side of the road to the other. Then suddenly we hit a big patch of ice and slide right off the side of the road.  We drove into a beautiful white, snowy field. Bear and I were in shock as we jumped out of the car. Once we were back in we realised the car wouldn’t go, we were stuck.
